Proof 14: Examine Jesus’ Miracles

December 17, 2007 at 7:35 am 22 comments

If someone were to come to you today and say, “I am God!”, what would you do? Yes, you would immediately ask for proof. Of course you would. And you would not want goofy proof. You would want real, solid, tangible proof.

No normal person, and I mean no one, would accept anything less than rock solid proof from a person who claims to be God.

Marshall Brain is correct, and he adds that we should feel the same way about Jesus. And then, he lists a few things that Jesus should have done, like move an entire mountain or write a book. In other words, leave incontrovertible proof.

But why do that? Jesus also said “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me” (Jn 10:27). God never intended for everyone to believe in Christ. Otherwise, He would not “confirm a covenant with many” (Mat 26:28; see also Mk 14:24), but a covenant with all.

If we were all destined to believe in Jesus and thus have eternal life (Joel 2:32a; Jn 3:16; 1 Tim 1:16; 1 Jn 5:13), then who is the world we are to be salt and light for? Who are the “vessels of wrath” Paul writes about in Romans 9?

Without evil, we cannot know what goodness is. Unless I’ve seen an ugly woman, I don’t know what a beautiful woman is. Same concept: unless some people remain unsaved, I don’t know what salvation looks like. Without people who give into the lusts of the flesh (see list at Gal 5:19-21), we wouldn’t know what it means to practice the fruits of the Spirit (see list at Gal 5:22-23).

Check this essay for a longer argument of Jesus’ claims having solid proof. And check this group of essays for a better examination of Jesus’ divine claims.

Without out genocide we can’t enjoy life; with out flesh eating bacteria we can’t enjoy health. Seriously dude that is some seriously warped reasoning. All the more since god designed the human mind so he would be able to make it other wise.

I like how you quote Brain on not wanting “goofy proof,” and then say he’s correct, lol.
The only “evidence” we have of Jesus’ miracles are in the Bible, which by todays standards, is considered “goofy proof” of not only a God, but a Son of God. It’s only when people all of a sudden believe in God and Jesus that they take the bible seriously from start to finish. But when looked at with an unbiased view from the beginning without any preconceived notions, it’s nothing more than an extremely well devised fairy tale mixed with a little bit of history.

Luke, the crucifixion is reasonable proof Jesus existed and did what he did.

  • 4. Luke  |  June 14, 2008 at 5:47 am

Luke, the crucifixion is reasonable proof Jesus existed and did what he did.
–No, the crucifixion is only minor evidence that Jesus existed and was crucified. And Tacitus Annals, which Christians use as evidence of Jesus, tells a different story of why he was crucified and put to death.

  • 5. Luke  |  June 16, 2008 at 9:40 am

You think Jesus’ is the only who is written to have done miracles? Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCaxrfl-XM4

–Forgot to mention the name of the video link to youtube I mentioned above, which is national geographic documentary called “Rivals of Jesus.” So if it ever becomes no longer available from that user like youtube videos have a tendency to do, you’ll know what to search for to see it from other users.

And so National Geographic is reliable becos…? And no, Tacitus Annals guy did not have a different story. that’s just what you think 😛 investigate further, man! Had it been outright contradictory, critics like YOU would’ve used it at EVERY possible opportunity!!!! xD

    White Says:
And so National Geographic is reliable becos…?
–Being a national geographic documentary has nothing to do with it’s reliability. It is the content in the documentary, which is based on other writings near the time of Jesus of other deified men performing miracles similar to the miracles Jesus performed which comments by historians and people who actually study these things. Did you even attempt to watch it, or does the topic of it seem a little intimidating?

And no, Tacitus Annals guy did not have a different story. that’s just what you think 😛 investigate further, man! Had it been outright contradictory, critics like YOU would’ve used it at EVERY possible opportunity!!!! xD
“Hence to suppress the rumor, (of a fire) he falsely charged with the guilt, and punished Christians, who were hated for their enormities. Christus, the founder of the name, was put to death by Pontius Pilate, procurator of Judea in the reign of Tiberius.”
THAT is the only section of Tacitus Annals that Christians use to try and prove the existence of Jesus outside of the Bible. Tell me what YOU think that means if “Christus” is Jesus and why he was really put to death? Tacitus was a secular historian. His work is not based on fiction, unlike the Bible.

  • 9. Mark  |  July 7, 2008 at 7:53 pm

Luke: Christus means “The Anointed One” which was Jesus’ title. And quit being stupid, that passage is obvoiusly about Jesus.

  • 10. White  |  July 8, 2008 at 5:09 am

-Yes i watched the video, like maybe even before you did -.- and it proofs Jesus is not God becos..??

-Ok, and that proves Jesus is not God becos…????!

    Mark Says:
Luke: Christus means “The Anointed One” which was Jesus’ title. And quit being stupid, that passage is obvoiusly about Jesus.
–I’m not being stupid, asshole. I’m saying that people use Tacitus’ annals to prove Jesus really existed against people who say he didn’t. I couldn’t care less if he really did exist or not. What matters is if Jesus really is the “son of God” and if he really performed all those miracles, or, if he was just some normal, charismatic guy who became so popular that people deified him after his death for whatever their reasons were.
–The main thing to point out in Tacitus’ annals is that Jesus wasn’t crucified for saying he was the “son of God,” but crucified because he got stuck with false charges of starting a fire. Why were christians even hated for their enormities at that time anyway? Probably because they were annoying in some way, heh. It’s a shame that one of the few secular sources that barely even mentions Jesus contradicts the Bible in regards to the reason he was really executed. Who’s lying about why he was put to death? A secular historian of that time, or the Bible?

Yes i watched the video, like maybe even before you did -.- and it proofs Jesus is not God becos..??
–Ask yourself this instead: What proves that those other rivals are not God? Or why are all those other rivals and their miracles they were written to have performed all false and fantasy fairy tales, but not Jesus? It just goes to show you that it’s easy to write that people performed miracles. Do a few writings make something true? Absolutely not. If no God exists in the first place, a “son of God” who goes around performing magical miracles doesn’t exist, either. (Not to say Jesus really didn’t exist, just his status of being “God’s son” and his miracles are completely falsified fairy tales.)

Luke had done a miracle also..that miracle is not beliving in god almighty when obviously there are more reasons to believe in one

Luke had done a miracle also..that miracle is not beliving in god almighty when obviously there are more reasons to believe in one
–rofl.. It’s no miracle in believing in God. It’s common sense. And what ARE the many reasons to believe in one of the thousands of Gods? Please refute the points I make instead of mundane and vague comments.

  • 14. Anti-Devil  |  July 15, 2008 at 4:56 pm

Ok u want me to refute my points? my point is ..u are talking nonsense all the while along..Simple as that.Instead of claiming i am making mundane and vague comments..do consider not making any mundane and vague claims

–ROFL.. I’ll let this one slide and won’t poke fun at ya for it. I know what you meant by it, lol.

my point is ..u are talking nonsense all the while along..Simple as that.Instead of claiming i am making mundane and vague comments..do consider not making any mundane and vague claims
–Are you on drugs? My posts are VERY specific and VERY detailed. They are not vague or nonsense. If my words and sentences are too complex for you to read and comprehend so that they make no sense to you, then I will sit here and explain each one of them to you in simple terms as if I were talking to a child. (which I honestly think I’m doing anyway.)

  • 18. Anti-Devil  |  July 16, 2008 at 4:12 pm

Sure treat me like a child if u wan..i am a child btw..i am not an self egoistic adult like u -_-not all adults are correct

Sure treat me like a child if u wan..i am a child btw..
–Then I will leave you to your own devices. You have a long road ahead of you full of learning, research, and study. There are two sides to this coin, and you can’t just look at one while choosing to be completely ignorant of the other side. In other words, you can’t just dive in to any religion without looking at the counter arguments and contradictory evidence against that religion. So until then, you are offering no challenge or insight to my points of view at this time and I see no reason to continue debating with, or even responding to you. I will save my time and energy for responding to people who are at least somewhat knowledgeable in the topics and subjects I present that offer reasonable refutations against my arguments.

i am not an self egoistic adult like u -_-not all adults are correct
–I’m not egotistical, either. You don’t know me, so don’t presume anything of me. And not all children are correct. In fact, it is the children who have the most learning to do as they grow up. Therefore, you are unfit for debate until you get more knowledge under your belt.

–So take care, apply yourself, and do well in school. I will respond to you no more, unless of course you have something worth responding to.

  • 20. Anti-Devil  |  July 18, 2008 at 12:34 pm

not all adult is correct, doesnt means u breath more air..ate more rice..talk more and know more things means u are correct..i have seen adults who abuse children..but u can never see a children abusing and adult,well..it is becuz children are more innocent..they don have worries..andf btw..luke..work hard in ur adult life..don drink and drive..treat ur wife better..search for god..u cant stop me from debate..becuz i am son of god..and i will go all out for him..even to disprove u right to the end of time

  • 21. Anti-Devil  |  July 18, 2008 at 12:36 pm

anf btw u don know me,u don even know wat colour of underpants i like to wear..so don speak as if u know me..u don knwo how much i research and think..and i presume i think clearer then u.u claimed u are smart..the only fact is that the difference between us is only the time u lived on earth.and btw i never said i know u a lot,but from wat u said..only depicts that u are an adult who don think enough,=D=p

  • 22. Anti-Devil  |  July 19, 2008 at 5:44 pm
