Proof #18: Imagine Heaven

January 4, 2008 at 8:24 am 12 comments

In Proof #6, Marshall Brain took Rick Warren’s Purpose Driven Life as representative of what every Christian believes.  Now, he’s taking Tim LaHaye’s Left Behind
books as representative of what every Christian believes.  The problem with this should be obvious: neither Tim LaHaye nor Rick Warren are theologians.  Neither are representative of what any Christian, or even a large portion of Christians, believe about their faith.

Brain doesn’t interact at all with the Bible here.  Instead, he interacts with the ridiculous Left Behind series of novels.  These novels represent the worst eschatology and are not considered biblical by any standard.  In essence, Brain is objecting to Left Behind, not to Christianity.  Therefore, there is nothing to refute here.

The word heaven is in the Bible 691 times, and every use of the word is referring to the sky in one way or another. Yes, that’s right, the sky. In Genesis, it says God created the heaven and the earth. Then it talks about “the firmament” for a few verses, and then says “And God called the firmament Heaven.” So the firmament and Heaven are the same thing. Now here’s the funniest part; The 4th Day in the creation story.

14: And God said, let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.
15: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
16: And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
17: And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth.

16 is the funniest one. It’s saying that the Sun isn’t a star, but merely a “light.” And that the Moon isn’t a planet, but a light. The moon isn’t even a light, it merely reflects light. So after those two “lights” were made, he then he created stars last. So it’s disassociating the Sun from other stars. And also, the first day is when God said “let there be light for day, and darkness for night.” Then on the 3rd day, God created big and small lights to “rule(?)” day and night. Where was this magical light from the first day coming from for 3 days until God finally created the stars that make light in the first place? Then 17 Goes to say that he made all these lights, then strategically spread them around in the firmament of the heaven. The Guy who wrote the creation story is a moron. He didn’t even have the concept of a Universe. It was all just “lights in heaven” to him. It’s like putting white stickers on a black piece of paper, holding it above your head, and calling the paper heaven, lol. And let’s not forget these primitive morons thought the earth was flat, and there’s several passages in the Bible that suggests it.

The Bible says that Earth and Heaven were created in the first day. Then 3 days later, God put the stars in Heaven. The universe isn’t even a concept in the entire Bible. According to the Bible, ALL that exists is the Earth, it’s inhabitants, and the sky with lights in it. The creation story is utter nonsense. Infallible word of God you say? Hardly. If you believe in the creation story, then you are a delusional fool. No offense.
Faith is the determination to remain ignorant in the face of all evidence that you are ignorant.

It’s funny. People say “We can see the top of Mt. Olympus and see that Zeus’ Crystal Castle isn’t there, so Zeus’ doesn’t exist.” Well, we’ve sent men into space, which is above heaven, and they didn’t see a kingdom, angels, or streets of Gold. So I guess God and his kingdom doesn’t exist, either.

And don’t bother telling me that “Heaven is in an alternate dimension that’s invisible to us like God is” crap. I already know that story.

NOWHERE in the Bible said that the moon is a light, or that the Sun is not a star. You merely interpreted that yourself. Remember the Bible is written from the earth’s point of view, becos the earth is home to all the people that God loves. The Sun and the moon are created the same time as the 1st day, but during the 4th day the atmosphere of the earth cleared up, and revealed the Sun and the moon to the earth.

And anti-devil, i’m beginning to love you ^^ you’re so right haha… stand strong in your faith. Everybody dies, and by that time, God or no God, we’ll all know ^^

—Do you even read and comprehend my whole post, or just kind of pick 1 little thing out of context and twist it to your own liking? I think you need to re-read my whole post.

Remember the Bible is written from the earth’s point of view, becos the earth is home to all the people that God loves. The Sun and the moon are created the same time as the 1st day, but during the 4th day the atmosphere of the earth cleared up, and revealed the Sun and the moon to the earth.
–Uhh.. how would YOU, the author, or even Adam or Eve know what happened on the 4th day? Adam wasn’t even created until the 6th day. I suggest you start thinking a little harder on a few things before you post them or jump to conclusions. It’s funny to watch people trip over themselves.
–And again, verse 16 says “And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.”
—-This means that these “great lights” were literally made on day 4. NOT ANYTHING about the atmosphere of earth clearing up. Where are you getting this crazy stuff from?

Luke..i supposed u don know the meaning of what is proph·e·cy
it means a divinely inspired utterance or revelation. and the foretelling or prediction of what is to come and what happened before. What makes u think created on the sixth day.u cant know wat is happening on the 4th?there also might be a poosiblity god told adam or eve?

–Name one prophecy in the bible that either couldn’t have been falsified or made to pass by human intervention (Like saying someone will be killed on a certain date, and then killing that person on that date because you either knew, or made the prophecy yourself for example) And then find me the prophecies in the Bible that did NOT come true. They’re in there, you just have to read, cross-reference, check, and recheck.
I predict the sun will shine tomorrow, and that it rained somewhere on Earth yesterday. Weee.. I’m a prophet! lol
–And the Bible says man was created on the sixth day, and tells us what happened on the 4th day. If it is wrong, then what are LIES doing in the bible? (Lies are in the Bible anyway, so it doesn’t really matter.)

there also might be a poosiblity god told adam or eve?
–If God told Adam and Eve how he did the creation, then he told them he created light on the first day, but didn’t create the “great lights (moon and sun), THEN the stars until the 4th day. Therefore, even if the ridiculous hypothesis of the “atmosphere settling on the 4th day” was even true, then God knew the sun and moon were already there. Why is God the one that’s causing the confusion here if he’s the one that told Adam and Eve. And why did God create the Earth with a dusty, cloudy atmosphere? He didn’t create the dry land with all the dirt in it’s place, but rather, all the dirt floating around in the atmosphere leaving it to settle wherever the wind takes it? It’s simply retarded to even THINK that “the atmosphere settled revealing the sun and moon.”

You are only a mere human and you want to understand why god do this or that…What makes u think you can understand..and you kinda like to refer things from an anti christian website?OH so you read the bible and found something you don’t really know and immediately say “oh god does exist..i think this verse is crap”?

  • 9. Anti-Devil  |  July 9, 2008 at 3:41 pm

true me my friend, read the bible more, there wont be any contradictions in the bible..it you think there is..find them out and post them here..we christians will take a look at it

    Anti-Devil Says:
You are only a mere human and you want to understand why god do this or that…What makes u think you can understand
–So I should just STOP trying to understand and leap blindly again into faith because religion is answers that may never be questioned? This is supposed to be convincing in some way, or some kind of evidence? And what makes you think I CAN’T understand? I like to try.

..and you kinda like to refer things from an anti christian website?
–That’s actually my blog site. I figured I’d link to it instead of copying and pasting the whole thing here and taking a huge amount of space. I can prove it by editing the specific blog I linked to and put “Hi Anti-Devil from weknowgodisreal.wordpress.com” in there if you’d like.
-Anyway, does being an anti-christian website somehow void out any points made within the site? Does being a christian website somehow validate points made within their sites?

OH so you read the bible and found something you don’t really know and immediately say “oh god does exist..i think this verse is crap”?
–It’s not that I find something I don’t “know” as in something I don’t understand, it’s that I find so much stuff that makes no logical sense when critical thinking is applied.
Take “You saw me before I was born and scheduled each day of my life before I began to breathe. Every day was recorded in your book!” (Psalm 139:16) and apply critical thinking to it like marshall brain does at http://www.godisimaginary.com/i6.htm for example. Now, if you don’t agree with that verse, then don’t you throw it out, disregard, and ignore it because you think it’s crap?

true me my friend, read the bible more, there wont be any contradictions in the bible..it you think there is..find them out and post them here..we christians will take a look at it
–I’ve read the Bible, don’t assume I didn’t. And there are plenty of contradictions in the Bible all over the place. Just google the term “contradictions in the bible” and you can read all you want. People have already listed them.
